Good questions.
Clear answers.

About licences, modules, and billing.

Can I self-host OpenSLMS for free?+

Yes, for personal, evaluation, and non-commercial use. If you use a self-hosted OpenSLMS commercially, for example to run a company’s, utility’s, or city’s lighting network, or to sell services built on it, you need a commercial licence. Talk to us and we’ll find the right one.

What is not in the open source edition?+

The open source edition is the complete management software: work orders, complaints, patrols, preventive plans, spares, and reports. Real-Time Monitoring and AI Connect are not in it. They are available only on OpenSLMS Cloud.

How is the Cloud price calculated?+

Add the prices of your modules to get a rate per 1,000 lights. Multiply it by your lights in thousands, rounded up. Cloud Operations and Real-Time Monitoring cost $78 per 1,000 lights, so 12,000 lights cost $936 a month. Prices are in USD, per organisation. You can change your modules as your network grows.

What does Real-Time Monitoring do?+

It subscribes to your feeder controllers’ MQTT broker and turns their messages into readings for each piece of equipment: on or off, current, energy, and dimming level. Network status, the switching timeline, dimming checks, and fault grouping are built from those readings, and controller alarms raise work orders on their own.

What does AI Connect do?+

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets an AI assistant such as Claude use OpenSLMS as a tool. Add the connector, sign in with your OpenSLMS account, and ask about your network in plain language, or have the assistant raise and update work orders. It acts as you: a technician can change only the jobs assigned to them. Real-time readings need Real-Time Monitoring.

How do you make money from open source?+

From OpenSLMS Cloud, where we host and run the software for you, from Real-Time Monitoring and AI Connect, and from commercial licences for organisations that self-host.

What happens during the beta?+

We’re onboarding a small group of organisations. Apply, and we’ll confirm your modules and price with you.

Do you have discounts for small towns or non-profits?+

Tell us about your network and your organisation. We’re happy to talk about pricing for small municipalities, education, and non-profits.

How do we buy it through a tender?+

Start from the playbook’s tender clauses for street light software: data ownership and export, an open API, platform availability, and security. Contact us for the documents your process needs.
