The light circuit is off in the day.
Learning Track · Module 9: Smart poles · Step 71 of 101
A normal lighting circuit is switched off in the day. Cameras, small cells, and chargers need power all the time.
- Switch at the luminaire, not at the cabinet. With lamp-level nodes, the circuit stays live and each light turns off by itself. Other devices then have power all day.
- Run a separate always-on circuit for heavy loads such as EV chargers.
- Meter each service separately, so each owner pays for their own energy.
- Check the cable size, protection, and voltage drop for the new load. The old lighting cable was not sized for it.
Warning
An always-on circuit changes the safety rules for maintenance. The pole is no longer dead in the day. Update the isolation procedure.
